Crazy Fun! & Tim Burton

Today we got our new brief, it started off with a talk about a selection of briefs we could choose from, one was about the future, another was about making an event to wow people, and a couple more but I knew which one i wanted to do straight away - it was a window design for a small local toy shop called Toys & Tales.

Buuuut, in the mean time we had to make ourselves in to crazy monsters and dress ourselves up in paper formed into many kinds of attire and masks... I was the mannequin for this, i loved it!

I got together with friends and we began to talk about what ideas we could implement into the window. We began thinking along the lines of fairytales and magic. I really wanted to do something big and different that would draw people into the shop. Immediately Tim Burton came to out minds and it was decided then we'd have something crazy.

Tim Burton is a popular, well known artist and film director. His movies are like no other, they are recognizable and are slightly humorous, for example his new recriation of Alice in wonderland. He also was the creator of The Nightmare before Christmas which  is a popular film revered by all. He designed the look of that movie.

If you have a spare 5 mins you should really check out his website, it's so much fun to look at!

Age UK Final!

So after having my piano idea totally fail on me (because i left it until the last minute again!) I have decided to scrap that and just make it out of paper. It's surprisingly easy and i'm enjoying making them!

I also had an idea to change douglas from being sat at his piano, partially because i just didn't know how i could draw him, I have trouble drawing people, and partially because I had an ever better idea, i've decided to have his hands only, as if the rest of him is invisible, they're cute quirky little hands, i love 'em!

I've just finished my final now, and I'm so happy with it, it looks just how i wanted it too!

And here's the vignette, I was going to do this all along, it took me so little time and i'm happy with it :) I'm glad everything has worked out the way I wanted in the end!

Age UK Update!

I've been working on my Age UK and i've come up with a really good idea! I've decided to have Douglas playing the piano, and have a floral background with photo frames on it, So the floral is like the wall, and the photo frames hung up on it, but without any photos in them, they're empty so it's as if he's alone because he's forgotten some people. I could have on the piano a music book, but with no musical notes inside it, only him playing from his heart, so i'll have the quote there.

Components!

My final components, I'm not showing my hideous prints to anyone, i've decided!

Background!

At first I was going to use a picture of Damask I took in an art gallery, but it's a very deep harsh red and I don't think it would work very well, sooo I tried out something else I found online on tumblr, it was a floral pattern but i did change it, i changed the colours so that they are a musky kind of colour, yellowy and faded, and also i re arranged the flowers so that the background would be able to be repeated.

Mine:
As you can see, mine is a lot larger, the flowers are rearranged so that the image could be repeated, I've also changed the brightness and contrast here, i think i might tweek that a little more though. It looks too bright.

A small gift

Whilst in poland, i saw a lot of wooden carvings, and eventually after being intrigued I bought a small whittling kit and thought i'd give it a go. It was fairly hard and took me a while, but with persistence (and a few cuts) I managed to carve out a basic shape of a horse. I gave it away as a gift for mothers day but I was really proud of it! I also did some decorative floral painting on it. I had to follow some tutorials online and although the shape isn't perfect, i think that it has a ton of character and it's dead cute!

Auschwitz

During my stay at Poland I visited Auschwitz, I can't really describe how I felt there, it was horrible, but not something I'd regret doing. I can only say that we were all lost for words at how horrific it was, something, even though we all knew we'd experience yet you can never be prepared for. We them moved on to Birkenau, again - lost for words. It's impossible to hold back your tears when you see something as shocking as this. I've seen plenty of movies and read plenty of books but honestly - nothing becomes more real when you're there. Eye opening but terrible at the same time. It really makes you appreciate what you have now.

Auschwitz

Birkenau

I would have taken more photos but I was very overwhelmed by the whole place to think about much else.

It was a very eerie place, strangely, there were no birds, it was a very silent place. It's as if they know what happened and an essence of it still remains.
